Dwarf goat

Capra hircus

AUDIO GUIDE

0:00 0:00
Curious, agile and always keen to explore: that is what dwarf goats are like. This domestic breed comes from West Africa, and its ancestors were among the first animals humans domesticated, about ten thousand years ago. Look at their eyes: they have rectangular pupils. Thanks to them they can see almost everything around them without moving their heads, which is very useful for spotting danger. And they are great climbers. Their hooves combine a hard rim with a soft pad that grips the rock like the sole of a sneaker. What’s more, each goat has its own voice, even its own “accent”, and mothers recognize their kids among many others. Oh, and they don’t eat just anything: in fact, they are quite picky.
