Black-capped Lory

Lorius lory

AUDIO GUIDE

0:00 0:00
Bright red, deep blue, green and a black cap: the black-capped lory looks as if it has just come out of a paintbox. It lives in the rainforests of New Guinea and is one of the most eye-catching parrots in the world. But its secret is in its mouth. Unlike other parrots, which crack seeds, the lory feeds mainly on nectar and pollen. For this it has a special tongue, ending in a tiny brush that collects nectar from flowers. And as it moves from flower to flower, it does the same job as bees: it pollinates the plants of the rainforest. It is a playful, curious and very noisy bird that travels through the treetops in pairs or small groups. A paintbrush of colors with wings.
